Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, on Wednesday praised U.S. President Donald Trump for his leadership in handling the COVID-19 outbreak.
Speaking during a virtual press conference on Wednesday, Ghebreyesus said the president is taking responsibility for leading the United States' response to the global pandemic.
The WHO director general who is a medical doctor, called COVID-19 “public enemy number one“ and warned that if some countries don't get serious about putting safety measures in place, the world could see thousands of additional casualties.
The WHO has been under fire for waiting for weeks before declaring the coronavirus outbreak a global pandemic.
The organization is also looking into allegations that China hid crucial data and downplayed the disease which led to it spreading around the world.
China has denied these claims and has accused the United States of manufacturing COVID-19 and unleashing it on the world.
