Israel’s Defense Minister Naftali Bennett has called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to work to reopen businesses as quickly as possible by performing large numbers of tests for COVID-19. This in order to identify the possible sources of outbreaks and places where life can return to normal. In making the statement on Tuesday, Bennett expressed concern that Israel may see more suicides than deaths from the coronavirus if the country’s lockdown is kept in place for too long. On Tuesday, the unemployment rate climbed to 23.4% with some 812,000 Israelis out of work since the beginning of March due to the pandemic.
